What is an Excess Fees?

Car rental excess fees are the amount of money that a renter must pay if the rental car is damaged or stolen during the rental period. In other words, it is the maximum amount that the renter is responsible for paying towards any damage to the rental car.

Car rental excess fees can vary widely depending on the rental company, the location, and the type of car being rented. The excess fee can range from a few hundred ringgits to several thousand ringgits, depending on the rental car's value and the level of insurance coverage provided.

To reduce the financial risk of having to pay high excess fees, renters may choose to purchase Liability Reduction Option (LRO). This optional can help reduce the renter's financial liability in case of an accident or theft.
